SOGS COMMITTEES & COMMISSIONS

All SOGS members in good standing are eligible to join up to three (3) SOGS Committees and/or Commissions! SOGS’ volunteer network is the  cornerstone of SOGS operations, enriching #GradLifeWesternU.

Committees are an integral part of SOGS’ advocacy mandate and oversee most of the projects and initiatives SOGS works on annually. Being a committee member helps improve conditions for SOGS’ diverse membership on- and off-campus, enriching graduate student life by connecting students across disparate departments and faculties.

HOW TO JOIN:

To join any of our committees or commissions, please contact the committee chair or commissioner directly by email, listed below. Let them know you are interested to join their committee by sending them a simple email. *Please do not send a resume.

Read up on the committees you are interested in. There is a pamphlet describing what each committee does, what you will learn by being on the committee, and what the time commitment to join.

Benefits of getting involved:

By attending and participating in committee meetings as a volunteer member, you will:

  • meet new grad student friends from across campus, widening your current social, academic, and professional circles;
  • learn new professional skills (what those are is depends on which committee(s) you are apart of); and,
  • receive a 💰 $5 gift voucher to the Grad Club for attending each meeting as a small thank you for donating your time.
TIME COMMITMENT:

⏰ Committees typically meet once per month, which is roughly 2-5 hours per month, depending on the committee. Speak to the chair for more information!
