PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Baristas – two (2) positions

The Society of Graduate Students (SOGS) is looking to hire two part-time baristas to prepare and serve coffee using the Grad Club’s brand-new coffee machine!

⚠️ We’re seeking graduate students with proven barista experience who can provide great coffee and welcoming service to our campus community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare and serve coffee and espresso-based beverages, including lattes, cappuccinos, and Americanos, with consistent quality and presentation.
• Provide friendly, efficient customer service and work collaboratively with Grad Club staff.
• Keep the coffee station and equipment clean, organized, and stocked throughout the shift.
• Assist with routine housekeeping during quieter periods, including tidying service areas as needed.
• Follow food safety and equipment operating procedures, taking direction from the Grad Club Managers.

EDUCATION AND ELIGIBILITY:

• Currently enrolled at Western University as a graduate student (Master’s or Doctoral).
• Preference will be given to Year-X students (i.e., students who are outside their program’s official fundable period).

EXPERIENCE:

• Proven barista experience is required, including hands-on experience operating an espresso machine and grinder.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare espresso-based beverages and steam milk (and milk alternatives) with minimal supervision.
• Latte art skills are a major asset.

💼 Limited, paid on-site training will be provided to familiarize successful candidates with our new machine and local procedures. Applicants should already have the practical barista skills needed to work independently following this orientation.

• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain beverage quality during busy periods.
• Attention to cleanliness, food safety, and an organized work environment.
• Willingness to assist with housekeeping when service demands permit.

⏰ TIME COMMITMENT:
Shifts run from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Individual schedules and weekly hours will be confirmed with successful candidates.

💰 REMUNERATION:
Ontario’s general minimum wage, adjusted as required: $17.95 per hour effective October 1, 2026.
