FALL 2026 ORIENTATION WEEK

The Society of Graduate Students is proud to present its Fall 2026 Term Graduate Student Orientation Week schedule of events! These events run Monday, September 21st to Sunday, September 27th.

⚠️ ALL SOGS MEMBERS ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE!

💰All ticketed events have been subsidized by SOGS to make them more affordable and accessible to grad students.

🥳 REGISTRANTS will be entered to win 1 of 3 SOGS O-Week Swag Bags (includes: SOGS zip-up hoodie, ceramic SOGS travel mug, StudentVIP squish cat phone stand, Student Vip travel cutlery set, $20 Grad Club gift certificate) valued at $110 each!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

QUEERVIA:  A NIGHT OF QUEER TRIVIA

5-7 p.m. | Grad Club (Middlesex College, Room 19) | 

🏳️‍🌈 Join the Pride Commission for three rounds of trivia, 20 questions per round (60 total), and sex-positive prizes for the winning team each round!

Teams capped at 4 people!

Fabulous prizes for winning teams include:

  • Waterproof portable bluetooth speaker

  • Grad Club voucher ($50)

Rise and shine! ✨ Did you know that the Grad Club is the only establishment at Western that offers a traditional (North American) breakfast? Join the Graduate Peer Support Committee for breakfast at the Grad Club!

CANCELLING BILLIONAIRES DISCUSSION

6 p.m. | Central Library, Third Floor

Join the Sustainability Committee for a discussion Cancelling Billionaires Before They Cancel Us.

An idea once dismissed as politically and practically impossible — taxing the ultra-rich — is gaining international attention. Now renowned Canadian author Linda McQuaig and tax scholar Neil Brooks are bringing it to London.

They will discuss their new book, Cancelling Billionaires Before They Cancel Us: The Urgent Case for a Wealth Tax, at a public Author Talk co-sponsored by the London Public Library and the London Chapter of the Council of Canadians, on Tuesday, September 22 at Central Library, 3rd Floor251 Dundas St., London

Feeling overwhelmed with the start of the Fall Term? Join the SOGS Health Plan Committee (HPC) for a super fun, informative crafting event where you can get outside of your academic life and relax over crafting, socializing, and learning about SOGS mental health and wellness supports.

Join the International Commission for a super fun and mysterious walking tour of downtown London! This tour is a heritage walk where you will learn the “Hidden Secrets of Downtown.” 🕵️‍♀️

Join us for a #GradLifeWesternU tradition — the SOGS O-Week BONFIRE NIGHT event!

GLOW BOWLING

8-10PM | Fleetway Bowling | 🎟️ $12 (or $17 for non-members)

Love to bowl? Never bowled before but want to try a classic Canadian indoor sport?

Join the SOGS Orientation & Social Committee for an evening of glow bowling at one of London’s premiere bowling and billiards venues!
Members can bring a partner or friend or (older) kids. Max sale of 4 tickets per SOGS member.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

SNOW TUBING

1:30-5:30 PM | Boler Mountain | 🎟️ $25 (or $36 for non-members)

Enjoy the sun, snow, and friends at our tubing with us at Boler Mountain!

⚠️ 🚨 2 tickets per SOGS member. If you find you cannot make the trip, kindly sell or give your ticket to a peer or colleague.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27

OUTDOOR SKATING at STORYBOOK GARDENS

12:30-3:30 PM | Middlesex College front doors | 🎟️ $12 (or $18 for non-members)

⛸️ Love to skate? Never skated but want to try a well-loved Canadian winter sport?

Join the SOGS Orientation & Social Committee for an afternoon of outdoor skating at one of London’s best outdoor attractions! Storybook Gardens has a 250 metre ice trail.
🚌 We’re taking our group via school bus!
⛸️ Skate rental included!
🥶 Dress for the weather — you will be outside for the afternoon
👭 Bring a partner or a child
🎟️ $13 per member | $18 for partner/spouse/child
